Tucked away in the Hills of the Pisgah Forest, with the Blue Ridge Mountains as your back drop you will find the quaint mountain town of Brevard, North Carolina. Known as the Waterfall Capital of the south read below to see why Brevard is my Happy Place and start planning your next mountain getaway.

Location:
Only a few hours from Atlanta and 30 minutes from Asheville makes Brevard a perfect weekend getaway. It is a beautiful and easy drive with scenic breath taking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take your time arriving and stop off along the route for some hiking, antique shopping and of course no road trip in the south is complete without some boiled peanuts.
Dwell
Pilot Cove is nestled at the base of the Pisgah National Forest and the location allows easy access to all Brevard has to offer. At the entrance to Pilot Cove you will find The HUB for all your trail needs, morning caffeine boost, and local rotating food trucks. You are just steps away from waterfalls, epic hiking trails and of course mountain biking trails which people travel from all over the country to explore.
The best way I can describe these cabins are eco-modern luxury. The cabins are very private and have unobstructed views since they are built on the Pisgah National Forest. We have stayed in the studio, one-bedroom and 2 bedroom cabins and all were phenomenal. You can check out the different cabins and rates HERE.
They come equipped with everything you need for your stay whether you are there for a weekend getaway or a longer stay. They have a sense of comfort yet modern luxury that cannot be duplicated. The beds are incredibly comfortable and it is the perfect place to unwind and relax and truly get away from the world. I love waking up in the morning and enjoying my tea (or coffee) on the balcony overlooking the forest. Some fresh farm eggs (they will deliver to your cabin upon request) and little yoga sesh on the balcony. best way to start the day. It is seriously my happy place.
NOSH:
There is no shortage of great food in Brevard whether you want something low key or more refined there is something for everyone. Here are a few of our favorites you can add to the list:
- The Square Root – a bit more upscale. I would describe as southern fancy. Southern classics but a bit more upscale, all around delicious
- Tin Roof Pizza – Hands down my favorite pizza of all time! Get your own pie, because you will not want to share; my rec is the Funghi…Local food truck and locations vary so check out their FB or IG.
- Vescovo – GET THE GNOCCHI…This is great local Italian restaurant. Perfect for a date night! You can make a night of it and walk next door to catch some live music, pool and a drink at 185
- The Bohemian Restaurant – One of the fancier options in Brevard. Beautifully curated from the culinary choices to the décor. Highly recommend!

LIBATIONS:
Brevard has no shortage of breweries and unique places to sit back relax and meet some new friends. Below are a few of our favs including some well known ones for you beer enthusiast:
- 185 King Street – Best place for live music, pool, great drinks and an all around great time. Have a pint of the local Brew “Noblebrau”
- Ecusta Brewing Company – A local fav with some of the best bartenders in Brevard. Ask for Alycia or Allie.
- Wine Down on Main – If you aren’t quite the beer type (like me) you gotta check out this quaint local wine bar to start or end your evening. We typically grab a bottle and a charcuterie board with friends
- Oscar Blues – A classic and a must when visiting. One of the more well known breweries in the area. oh and grab some fries…seriously delish

DO:
Brevard is known as the “Land of Waterfalls” and rightly so. There are over 250+ waterfalls and includes one that is highest in the East Coast. This small town is packed with activities, from adventurous hikes to leisurely kayak/canoes river floats. I can assure you there is something for everyone in Brevard. You can hop on your mountain bike, walk or drive to all the local attractions.
- Mountain Biking – Brevard and specifically Pilot Cove is a HUGE Mountain Biking community! They have tracks throughout the property from intermediate to advanced level. Check out their recommendations HERE for some trails or if you are not ready to attempt on your own they have some guide services as well. Due to my clumsy nature I haven’t been brave enough to attempt this, but it looks like so much fun. They even have some really cool ramps on property!
- Hiking – Located in the heart of the Pisgah Forest you are in the middle of a hikers dream. Check out Pilot Coves hiking recommendations HERE. Also you can pick up some local hiking guides as well as any gear you may need at The HUB located at the start of the property.
- Waterfalls – Do I need to say any more. Brevard is the waterfall capital of East Coast and they do not disappoint. From Pilot Cove you are literally surrounded in every direction to waterfalls including some popular ones:
- Looking glass falls
- Sliding Rock
- Rainbow Falls
- Upper White Water Falls
- Sunrise/Sunset with breathtaking views – Be sure to venture up to the ridge for not only some great hiking but to also take in an incredible sunset. We Celebrated our anniversary with some Bubbly ontop of the mountain. Fair-warning even in the summer temperatures drop at the top so make sure to layer up!
- Pilot Cove Amphitheater – Something that is unique to Pilot Cove is the amazing amphitheater they have built. They host music shows, yoga, and even weddings and its right on property.
- Kayaking and Canoeing the French Broad River – This is a MUST every time we visit Brevard. Headwaters Outfitters can assist you in all your equipment and logistical needs. If you really want to experience Brevard like a local check out the annual infamous Hellbender competition on the Broad, and cheer for the Ecusta Brewery Team.
